Narellan based tipper builder, Muscat Trailers, recently commissioned a substantial, state-of-the-art update to their Autodesk design software package, named Inventor 2008.
This allows the company to ‘virtually’ design and build their trailer units, identifying any problems that may arise in production.
“To be best-in-class is not just about moving from 2D to 3D, but rather to push ahead to digital prototyping to answer questions about your product before you start to build it,” said Steve Olszewski, Muscat’s General Manager.
According to Steve, digital prototyping gives his conceptual design, engineering and manufacturing departments the ability to virtually explore a complete product before it becomes real.
“With digital prototyping, manufacturers create, validate, optimise and manage designs from the conceptual design phase through to the manufacturing process.”
Steve pointed out that Muscat’s investment in Inventor 2008 is quite substantial, given that dedicated digital prototyping solutions are usually quite expensive, whilst ‘off-the-shelf’ 3D modelling packages provide only part of the functionality needed to create a complete digital prototype.
However, he added that the investment is certainly worth it. “Muscat can look to the future with greater confidence in the integrity and durability of our product range for all our customers.”
